Gairaut Waterfall
Picturesque waterfall & chalet with stunning views across the city

The Gairaut waterfall was constructed in the 19th century alongside a wooden alpine chalet to celebrate the completion of the Vésubie canal.
Inspired by Austrian landscapes, the waterfall was built in 1883 when central European spas, like Baden Baden in Germany, were in vogue. They created a rustic artificial rock wall and a wide waterfall which also served a functional purpose: oxygenating the water before distributing it into the city.
Whilst the surrounding area is a little artificial, with caves and ponds, the views back to Nice city are spectacular. Definitely worth a visit.
Visitor comments
- "This fall located a few miles fron Nice center is really worth a visit. The fall itself is pretty and the view over the city is spectacular. There is also a little Church nearby which is also worth visiting." - Trip Advisor
- "A bautiful view over the whole town. Easy to reach with tram+local bus, but also easy to miss. A peaceful place with outstanding view, but nothing else. Worth a visit!" - Trip Advisor
- "Nice place to go for a little trip in Nice. A picturesque waterfall, artificial cave and "alpine" chalet above the waterfall. Beautiful views - the cascade is situated on a hill above Nice. You can go there by bus nr. 25, 63 or 76 (stop Cascade de Gairaut) or walk from Nice. I went by tram to the stop Comte de Falicon (direction Henri Sappia) and then took a minibus nr. 76." - Trip Advisor
