Route Napoleon from Grenoble to Cannes Voted the Best Road in France
One of the most scenic ways to get to the South of France
The Route Napoleon is favoured by motorists heading to the South of France, thanks to its winding roads, beautiful scenery plus it offers a cheaper alternative than paying lots of toll fees on the motorway.
Napoleon and 1200 of his men first took the route in 1815 when retuning from Elba, to avoid travelling along the Rhone valley. He took this now famous route across the Alps, from Cannes to Digne, Sisteron, up to Gap and finally Grenoble.
A favourite scenic stop off along the way is the Gorge du Verdon where you can peer over into the 750m deep gorge, often referred to as France's Grand Canyon.
It has recently been voted the best road in France, and we'd have to agree!
